Bill Burkett Back to Artists |
Bill Burkett enjoys traveling the rural back roads of the country. "My
paintings," he says,"are inspired by the scenes and people that I
encounter on my wanderings. I am constantly saddened by the disappearing life
styles and architecture that I see. I try, as best I can, to paint these places
as they might have appeared in their hey days."
Bill paints with
egg tempera. It is a demanding medium requiring the artist to make his own
paints for each days' work. The paint is then applied in thin layers to the
paintings' surface. Needless to say it is a very slow process and today few
artists use this ancient medium. Early in his career Bill decided that the thin
layers of color and luminosity that egg tempera affords were the special
qualities that he wanted for his paintings.
Today, Bill Burkett is
considered one of the modern masters of the egg tempera medium and the
distinctive style in which he paints have attracted avid collectors for his
originals and prints throughout the country. |
